New Miri Marine Dept will boost staff performance to provide best services for the people, says Dr Wee

MIRI: The completion of the new Miri Marine Department here will inject new spirit and encouragement to each of its personnel, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee said the new three-storey office building, complete with modern facilities, will improve performance of its personnel in providing the best services to the locals and Sarawakians.

"The Transport Ministry has always prioritised the roles of Marina Department Malaysia (JLM) in the growth of the country’s maritime industries.

"As a maritime nation, our economy is highly dependent on the maritime industry which encompasses various sectors such as ports, shipping, tourism and fisheries," he said in his speech during the official opening of the Miri Marine Office on Friday (Dec 3).

Dr Wee, who posted on Facebook about the visit, said all these sectors are able to provide a positive impact, especially towards the country's economic growth, in line with the nation's goal in achieving developed country status.

He said he had also been informed that the Federal Government has approved another project involving JLM in Sarawak region under the 12th Malaysia Plan in 2022.

The project is to demolish, design and build part of the jetty for Sarikei Marine Office.

"When it's ready, the new jetty of Sarikei JLM will be able to create a safe and conducive environment in an effort to provide the best service to customers, as well as improve monitoring and the level of navigational safety along Sarikei waters.”

He hopes that Sarawak JLM will continue its commitment in providing excellent service and creating a competitive maritime transport system, in line with the department's objectives to drive quality national maritime growth through the strengthening of safe, systematic maritime transport systems and the protection of marine environment.

Also present during the ceremony were his deputy Datuk Henry Sum Agong, Transport deputy secretary-general Datuk Razali Mohamad and JLM assistant director-general Wan Enduk Wan Salleh.
