MUAR: Three women have been arrested for allegedly cheating their own father with a fake kidnap claim and ransom demand.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Zaharudin Rasip said police received a report about the "abduction" from the worried 66-year-old father on Friday (Oct 1).
“However, our investigations led to the arrest of the victim's own daughters, aged between 25 and 32, who were arrested in two different locations in Muar at about 8.30pm on Monday (Oct 4).
“The trio allegedly conspired in faking a story claiming that they were kidnapped in order to get money from the victim,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 5).
ACP Zaharudin added that the case was being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine or whipping or any two of the above punishments, upon conviction.
“We would like to remind members of the public not to create any fake story involving crime for their own benefit.
“The police will not compromise with anyone involved in such crimes,” he added.
