Police permit no longer needed to travel across districts in Sarawak from Wednesday (Oct 6)

KUCHING: A police permit will no longer be required to travel across districts in Sarawak effective Wednesday (Oct 6).

The state disaster management committee, which decided this in a meeting on Tuesday (Oct 5), said however that police permits were still needed for interstate travel.

The committee said although inter-district travel was now allowed, people were not encouraged to visit one another.

"The public should have self-discipline because we are still fighting Covid-19.

"People also need to be aware that we are all responsible for prioritising the safety of the community, especially those in rural areas," it said in a statement.

Sarawak is currently in Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan.

The committee also said children below 12 were not encouraged to go out of the house for now.

"If they need to go out, they should be accompanied by their parents or guardians who have been fully vaccinated and comply with health protocols," it said.

It also reminded individuals who have been fully vaccinated to continue adhering to preventive measures such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, ensuring good ventilation and avoiding gatherings to prevent the infection from spreading.

Sarawak reported 1,361 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (Oct 5), taking the state's tally to 218,126.

Of the cases, 1,340 or 98.5% were in Categories One and Two (no symptoms and mild symptoms) while 21 cases were in the more serious Categories Three to Five.

The state also reported 16 deaths from Sept 24 to Oct 4, including four brought in dead.
