IPOH: A total of 126,211 students aged between 12 and 17 years in Perak have registered for Covid-19 vaccination, says Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad.
He said of that number, 115,617 or 91.6% have received their first dose since the start of the state's vaccination programme for teenagers on Sept 20.
"There are 41 vaccination centres in the state operating in the programme for teenagers," he told reporters after visiting the SM Izzuddin Shah vaccination centre here on Tuesday (Oct 5).
Asked about a recent viral claim that two students here died after being vaccinated against Covid-19, Saarani said the claim was false.
Furthermore, he said, the number of students who had registered for the programme, as well as those who turned up to receive their vaccine, showed that the false claim had no impact.
"Parents are (still) bringing their children for vaccination," he added.
Saarani also advised parents who had doubts about the vaccine to think it over, as no one would be safe from the virus without being inoculated.
"We need to think about the people around us. Parents must be an example to their children," he added.
