MELAKA: The state government is sticking to its stance of not allowing tourists from other states even though Melaka is moving into the third phase of National Recovery Plan (NRP) on Friday (Oct 1).
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali said only domestic tourism is allowed for the time being.
“We will gauge the situation before making a decision to allow tourists from outside the state.
"Health and safety are our priority,” he said on Thursday (Sept 30).
Suliaman said the initial decision to not reopen the tourism industry on Oct 1 was tabled at the recently-concluded state legislative assembly sitting.
On Wednesday (Sept 29), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced that Melaka will move to Phase Three of the NRP on Oct 1.
Meanwhile, Melaka police will discontinue seven roadblocks at midnight on Friday (Oct 1) following the migration of the state to Phase Three.
State police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Wira Abdul Majid Mohd Ali said the roadblocks are the ones at Pulau Sebang, Cherana Putih, Rumbai, Gapam, Sungai Rambai, Kesang and Bemban.
They were set up on June 1.
However, DCP Abdul Majid added that roadblocks at all entry points into the state will be maintained in line with the state government’s decision not to allow outstation tourists for now.
