Interstate travel for education must have relevant permission letters, say police

KUALA LUMPUR: Those looking to travel interstate to go school or education institutions must have a certified letter from the Education Ministry or the respective schools and institutions, say police.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Hazani Ghazali said students, parents and teachers who are involved must have the letters.

"The letter must be shown when going through police roadblocks to ensure smooth travel.

"The National Security Council (NSC) recently outlined the standard operating procedures (SOP) for the daily movement to schools and education institutions as well as intake of students to hostels.

"Students in daily school sessions are allowed to cross state borders daily using a letter certified by the Education Ministry or schools and education institutions.

"A guardian can accompany the student for the travel to and from the schools or education institutions," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 30).

Teachers who will travel inter-state for the purpose of teaching or teaching and learning (PdP) must also have letters certified by the ministry or schools and institutions, he added.

"Students, who are going to hostels, are also permitted to travel interstate, provided they have the letters from the ministry or schools and education institutions.

"The number of people in the vehicle for this purpose are based on the capacity of the vehicle," he said.
