Dedicated education channels well received by parents and students, says Radzi

PETALING JAYA: Parents and students have given "good feedback" to the dedicated educational television channels launched by the Education Ministry, says Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin.

The Education Minister said the channels including DidikTV KPM as well as educational TV programmes through TV Okey RTM and Tutor TV Astro had been well received by many, especially those living in areas which lacked Internet connectivity.

"The channels and programmes have been well received by parents and students," he said when launching the Second International Conference on Educational Leadership and Management 2021 on Wednesday (Sept 29).

The channels, he said, were launched as the ministry was aware of the lack of Internet connectivity faced by some schools and students in rural areas.

As for online learning, Radzi said teachers and students had raised concerns about the types and materials used in the teaching and learning process during the pandemic.

"The educational application and Internet requirements are also another challenge that needs to be highlighted," he added.

To help ensure students continue studying throughout the pandemic and its subsequent school closures, Radzi said the ministry implemented home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) including online, offline and off-site learning approaches.

"Offline teaching aids could be designed to suit the needs of teachers and children at schools, considering their constraints such as preparing materials to be delivered to students or picked up by parents at schools."

Meanwhile, off-site learning involved teachers going to rural communities in delivering teaching materials to the students, Radzi said.

He also said the ministry had prepared the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (Delima) platform to aid students and teachers.

Delima is an online platform that provides resources for teachers to support online teaching and learning including digital textbooks and educational videos.

"It is hoped that all these initiatives benefited the students in their learning process," he added.
