Covid-19: 100 deaths recorded on Saturday (Sept 11)

PETALING JAYA: A total of 100 people died due to Covid-19 on Saturday (Sept 11), bringing the cumulative number of fatalities to 20,419.

Another 492 were recorded from the backlog of cases and from the total, 88 deaths were classified as "Brought in Dead (BID)" and of the 20,419 cumulative Covid-19 deaths, 3,676 were classified as BID.

The figures were reported on the Health Ministry's CovidNow website.

The previous high in the number of deaths was 393 on Aug 26, while the highest BID figure was on Sept 5 at 107.

On Tuesday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had explained that the deaths announced each day did not occur within the last 24 hours.

He explained that there was a backlog in death reports as health authorities needed to confirm whether the fatalities were caused by Covid-19.

Saturday also saw a change in how the Ministry announced the number of deaths and active cases.

While the figures had previously been included in the Ministry's daily Covid-19 statement, the ministry in its statement yesterday said that data on deaths, active cases and several other matters would be uploaded to its Github online repository page as well as the CovidNow website.
