KOTA KINABALU: A former customary officer and a civil servant were among four people held for allegedly receiving around RM900,000 as inducement to assist in land sale and purchase transactions in the state.
The four suspects, aged between 30 and 60, have been remanded until Aug 27 to assist in the case.
Keningau Magistrate Flavian Edward Henry allowed the remand application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) yesterday.
Prior to this, the four suspects had gone to the MACC branch office in Keningau to give their statements before they were arrested on Wednesday.
According to a source, the suspects were believed to have worked together to approve the transactions in 2025.
“The former customary officer and civil servant were suspected to have received bribes from two land brokers to help ease the process of the land sale,” the source said.
It is learnt that the land belonged to another person, who had never made any offer to sell the parcel.
Sabah MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah, when contacted, confirmed the arrest.
