Contraband alcohol, firecrackers worth half a million seized by Sabah police

KOTA KINABALU: Smuggled alcohol and firecrackers worth over half a million ringgit were seized from a warehouse at Putatan near here on Tuesday (Sept 7) afternoon.

The items comprising 3,986 cartons of beer and 40,500 packets of assorted firecrackers were confiscated at Jalan Pantai Berahi, at 3.05pm, said Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim.

However, he said no one was nabbed as the warehouse was unmanned during Ops Contraband, a joint operation between the police and the state Customs Department.

“The total value of items seized were worth about RM502,316, including taxes,” DSP Haris said, adding that the coordinated operation was conducted to tackle the sales of smuggled goods in the district.

He urged the public to continue being the eyes and ears of the police and other security forces to combat crime in their respective areas.
