Covid-19: 22,597 new cases on Saturday (Aug 28)


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 22,597 new Covid-19 infections and 252 deaths on Saturday (Aug 28).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said with the new cases, the country's cumulative total to date was now 1,685,510.

Of the new cases, 22,585 were local infections while 12 were imported cases.

Another 252 people succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the country's death toll to 15,802.

It also said there were 19,492 recoveries for a total of 1,401,160 to date.

The number of active cases is now 268,548.

Of this number, 986 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 451 requiring ventilator support.

Selangor remained the state with the highest number of daily infections with 5,814 cases reported, followed by Sabah (2,834); Sarawak (2,427); Kedah (2,162) and Penang (1,920).

"Johor reported 1,896 new cases, Kelantan (1,289); Kuala Lumpur (1,111); Perak (1,061); Terengganu (739); Pahang (579); Negri Sembilan (345); Melaka (269); Perlis (98); Putrajaya (48) and Labuan (five)," he said in a tweet on Saturday.
