PUTRAJAYA: A Covid-19 outbreak in a Sarawak village is the largest of 34 new infection clusters announced by the Health Ministry on Friday (Aug 6).
The cluster at Kampung Seratau in Kuching has 392 cases to date, after 1,084 villagers underwent a targeted screening exercise.
The village has been under an enhanced movement control order (EMCO) since July 17.
The EMCO there was initially supposed to end on July 30 but it was extended to Aug 13 due to a rise in cases at the village.
The cluster is one of 11 new ones that have been classified as community outbreaks.
Another community cluster is an outbreak at a village in Kedah, which stems from recent festive celebrations.
At least 28 people at Kampung Siputeh in Kodiang tested positive for Covid-19 following house-to-house visits during the festive occasion.
The cluster’s index case is a 39-year-old woman who began developing symptoms on July 23, before testing positive on July 30.
There are also 19 clusters that have been categorised as workplace outbreaks.
The biggest of these is an outbreak at a factory at Taman Industri Jaya in Skudai, Johor where 122 cases have been found.
A 35-year-old man who started having symptoms on July 22 tested positive on July 30.
Some 213 workers at the factory underwent screening and 122 cases were found.
