Covid-19: Another record high of 20,889 new cases, Selangor top with 8,792


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded a new high of 20,889 Covid-19 cases on Friday (Aug 6), bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 1,224,595 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor still accounted for the most number of cases, with 8,792 new infections followed by Kuala Lumpur (2,483).

In a tweet Friday, Dr Noor Hisham said three other states recorded more than 1,000 new cases each - Kedah with 1,371, Sabah (1,291) and Johor (1,275).

Only two localities reported single-digit figures - Labuan and Perlis with nine new Covid-19 cases each.

The country discharged 16,394 Covid-19 patients - also a new daily record.

To date, 993,020 people (81% of all cases) in Malaysia have recovered from Covid-19.

There were 160 more Covid-19 deaths, taking the death toll to 10,179.

Total active cases in the country rose to 221,396.

Of that, 1,096 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 545 on ventilator support.
