MERSING: Three Covid-19 patients from Pulau Aur have been sent to the hospital with assistance from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) medical emergency evacuation (Medevac) team here.
Johor MMEA director First Admiral Nurul Hizam Zakaria said that the Mersing Maritime Zone received a call from the district office on Saturday (July 31) to ferry the patients to Mersing Hospital.
"Following the call, MMEA's Perkasa 31 boat was deployed to the scene with five staff members on board.
"They were in full personal protective equipment (PPE) gear to conduct the medevac service," he said in a statement here on Sunday (Aug 1).
He noted that the boat arrived at the location at about 3.30pm on Saturday to take the three patients, aged 15 to 77, to the Syahbandar Jetty.
"The journey from Pulau Aur to the jetty took about two hours. Upon arrival, the Covid-19 patients were transferred to an ambulance that was on standby to send them to the hospital," he said.
He said that the MMEA staff members and assets involved, including the boat, have been sanitised with help from the Fire and Rescue Department.
