Covid-19: Malaysia records 17,150 new cases, S'gor still tops the list with 6,326


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 17,150 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday (Aug 1), bringing the cumulative number of infections in the country to 1,130,422.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that Klang Valley still accounted for the most number of cases with Selangor recording 6,326 new cases and Kuala Lumpur with 2,086 cases.

Three other states recorded four-digit figures with Kedah reporting 1,511 new cases, Johor (1,045) and Sabah (1,002).

Only Labuan had new cases in the single digit with five new Covid-19 infections.

In the same 24-hour period, there were 160 fatalities, bringing the death toll to 9,184.

There were also 11,326 recoveries, which means 925,965 have recovered from the disease nationwide.

There are still 1,059 patients in intensive care units, with 531 requiring ventilator support.
