Stop-work order issued after LRT3 construction site mishap

KLANG: A stop-work order has been issued following an accident at the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project site on Jalan Langat, Bandar Bukit Tinggi near here.

Pembinaan Jaya Zira Sdn Bhd - the Package GS09 contractor of the project - said in a statement that an iron scaffolding fell at the construction site, which is in front of Premiere Hotel at about 2.40pm Thursday (July 29).

It added five construction workers were involved in the accident - four were rescued and one died.

“A stop-work order has been issued to stop all construction activities with immediate effect.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences and apologies to the victims and their families, and also apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused,” it said.

The company also said that it is working with the Fire and Rescue Department, and investigating the cause of the incident.

Earlier, firemen in two fire engines from Shah Alam and Port Klang rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 2.41pm.

A total of 16 firemen were deployed to carry out rescue work.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman confirmed that a Bangladeshi worker died. His body was retrieved at about 4pm.

The others injured were three Bangladesh workers and an Indonesian.
