PETALING JAYA: With schools set to reopen in September, Khairy Jamaluddin revealed that nearly three-quarters of schoolteachers have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
The Science, Technology, and Innovation Minister said 303,682 teachers, or 73.5% of the total, had received at least one dose so far.
“Some 45,197 staff under Anggota Kumpulan Pelaksana (AKP) or 67% of them have also been vaccinated.
“A total of 33,633 support staff have also received at least one dose,” he said in his briefing session in Parliament on Wednesday (July 28).
He clarified that the school support staff included canteen operators, security guards, and cleaners.
On teachers who are assigned to teach SPM and STPM students, he said that 90% of them, or 80,717 teachers, have been vaccinated.
He also clarified that a total of 12,894 teachers (66.8%) in the private sector have also been vaccinated.
Khairy had previously assured that all staff members in schools will be vaccinated by Sept 1, when schools in the country are set to reopen.
He said that his ministry was working closely with the Education Ministry to ensure a safe environment for students when schools open their doors.
