Parts of Sarawak hit by blackout on Saturday (July 10)

KUCHING: Parts of Sarawak were hit by a blackout on Saturday (July 10) night when the Murum transmission line tripped.

Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) said a double circuit tripping of the 275kV Murum transmission line caused a power outage at about 9.30pm.

Major areas affected were Kuching, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Mukah, Sibu, Bintulu and parts of Miri.

SEB said restoration works commenced immediately and supply was progressively restored to the affected areas, with almost full restoration by 10.30pm.

"Sarawak Energy sincerely apologises to our affected customers for the inconvenience caused by the outage," it said in a statement late Saturday night.

SEB added that it was investigating the cause of the double circuit tripping on the Murum line that led to the interruption.
