Tengku Zafrul appointed as NRP coordinating minister


PETALING JAYA: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has been appointed the coordinating minister to drive the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a statement on Friday (July 9) said the Finance Minister will oversee the implementation of strategies and assistance initiatives in the NRP while taking appropriate proactive intervention steps to handle the dynamic Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The decision was made at the first National Recovery Plan Cabinet Taskforce (NRPCT) online meeting.

“The meeting also agreed to strengthen collaboration with subject matter experts particularly health, economic and social experts to get feedback and continue to assess the effectiveness of current public health measures, patient management strategies at hospitals and the vaccination strategy, ” Muhyiddin said, adding that the country is on the right track in managing the pandemic with the involvement of experts.

Muhyiddin added that the government understands the hardship people are facing during this pandemic and will take every effort to achieve the goals in the NRP.

“In order to ensure the recovery plans are carried out smoothly, the Economic Stimulus and Coordination Unit (Laksana) under the Finance Ministry has been appointed as the secretariat to the NRPCT to coordinate initiatives related to the NRP.

The NRPCT will monitor the implementation of various strategies in the NRP to free the country from the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

The meeting was chaired by Muhyiddin and attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as well as Senior Ministers Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin who are in charge of Foreign Affairs, Works and Education.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Health Minister Datuk Seri Adham Baba and Zafrul were also at the meeting.
