200 families living in fear of wild animals

Two hundred families in Felda Perasu, Gua Musang, Kelantan, are living in fear of wild animals, Utusan Malaysia reported.

They also complained that the animals such as sun bears and tigers were destroying their crops and livestock.

Settler Mohd Zain Hassan, 72, said the villagers had lodged reports about the wildlife but the authorities still failed to catch the animals.

He said that on Thursday they were shocked that a tiger had eaten two head of cattle.

“If no immediate action is taken, we are not only worried about our livestock and crops but our lives as well, ” he said.

Another settler, Wan Norida Wan Daud, 57, said several coconut trees in her backyard were destroyed, believed to be due to sun bears.

“At 5.30am, I heard a strange sound but I thought that wild boar were looking for food. Apparently, the bears were destroying the coconut trees, ” she added.
