SPM 2020 scorers fought against odds to ace exam

PETALING JAYA: On some days, Nurul Auni Kaswadi could not cope with the emotional and mental stress of preparing for the SPM 2020 exams.

Despite the challenges, the 18-year-old from SMK Seksyen 18, Shah Alam, scored 8A+, 2As and 1A- for the exams which were held from February to April this year.

“Learning from home through the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) method was very difficult and the postponement of the exams was exhausting.

“I could reach out to my teachers and friends through WhatsApp and other apps but it’s not the same as face-to-face learning, ” she said in an interview.

Expressing her disbelief, the aspiring doctor said achieving A+ had been her dream.

“I’ve always only gotten a mix of As for my trials, never A+. I kept checking my slip online to make sure it was mine, ” she said.

Mara Junior Science College Langkawi student Aminin Irfan Syarazi said he complained to his friends and family about the PdPR method and the postponement of the exams.

He said there were times he was depressed but did his best to continuously look at the brighter side of the situation.

“Many of us found it difficult to cope with PdPR initially but over time, we enjoyed the new method of learning, thanks to our teachers.”

Aminin scored 8A+ and 1A.

SMK Subang Bestari, Shah Alam, student Misyael Fatini Sharif Fudin kept herself motivated by looking at the silver lining.

While inundated with more homework through PdPR, she took advantage of the intervals between her lessons to revise.

“Thinking about what I want to achieve and become in life, as well as my family, kept me going,

“There was a lot more work but I completed it all, ” said Misyael Fatini, who obtained 8A+ and 2As.
