MDEC's Rais Hussin now UTM adjunct professor


PETALING JAYA: Datuk Wira Dr Rais Hussin Mohamed Ariff (pic) has been appointed as an adjunct professor at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) chairman will begin his role on June 1 for a period of two years.

In this role, Dr Rais Hussin will advise and provide recommendations to the Advanced Informatics department on aspects relating to the formulation of its curriculum.

He will also be conducting lectures and seminars as well as conducting dialogues with the academic staff and students of UTM.

“Constructive engagements and dialogues with the academic staff and students will be high on my priority as I seek to ensure the current curriculum stays relevant in today’s on-ground reality as well as the tectonic shift in 4IR and digital technologies, ” he said in a press release by MDEC on Thursday (May 27).

He said it is crucial to build the digital capabilities of the next generation and encourage the application of technology in our daily lives.

“I look forward to advocate change and enable equitable opportunities in the digital economy, in line with Malaysia 5.0; a nation deeply integrated with technology that empowers inclusivity, sustainability and shared prosperity," said Rais Hussin.

“I am honoured to be able to play my part and lend my experience and expertise to nurture and educate the next generation of leaders of Malaysia, ” he added.

Rais Hussin has a doctorate in business administration from the International Islamic University Malaysia and is also the author of the book 4IR: AI, Blockchain, Fintech – Reinventing A Nation.
