IPOH: The authorities have deployed drones to ensure the public adheres to the standard operating procedure at areas under the enhanced movement control order.
“Drones are currently being used at several Kinta sub-districts as part of a collaboration between the Ipoh district police and the Perak Civil Defence Force (APM), ” said state APM operations officer Ahmad Muairi Mohamad.
“The drones are remotely piloted by APM officers, ” he told reporters after conducting a surveillance operation using the drone in Klebang on Tuesday.
“If we capture photographs of any activities that violate the SOP, we will send them to the police for further action, ” he said.
Ahmad Muairi added that it was the first time they were collaborating with the Ipoh police on this.
He said his team had conducted surveillance at the Kampung Simee wet market, Kampung Rapat market and Greentown Business Centre.
“Each drone can fly between 30 minutes and an hour depending on the weather and location. It can also fly within an 8km radius at a time, ” he said.
When contacted, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the drones would only be used in public areas in Ipoh.
“We will see if there is a need to extend the drone use in other enhanced MCO areas in the state, ” he added.
