IPOH: More police roadblocks will be set up at strategic locations at the four districts in the state placed under the enhanced movement control order (MCO).
State police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid (pic) said the move was to ensure that the movement of people without permits would be reduced during the 14-day enhanced MCO.
He said policemen would also be deployed to ensure the people adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP) with more patrolling after 10pm.
“Police will also be stationed under ‘Ops Payung’ at public places of interest.
“We will be receiving assistance from other uniformed bodies as well, ” he said in a statement on Friday (May 21).
On Thursday (May 20), Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the order has been imposed on 15 localities in Besut, Terengganu, and other states including four districts in Perak due to a sudden surge of Covid-19 cases.
The areas in Perak are Hulu Perak district (Mukim Pengkalan Hulu), Larut, Matang dan Selama districts (Mukim Taiping), Kinta district (Mukim Hulu Kinta covering Ipoh, Lahat, Chemor and Tanjong Rambutan) and Muallim district (Mukim Hulu Bernam Timur).
Comm Mior Faridalathrash urged the public to cooperate with all government agencies involved.
“The Covid-19 cases are on the rise, so I hope the public will follow all the SOP to break the chain of infection.
“We will not hesitate to take action against those who fail to comply, ” he said.
