Motorcyclist who allegedly performed dangerous stunts in viral video arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a suspect and seized his motorcycle after a video of him riding recklessly went viral on social media.

The 28-second video was uploaded on TikTok and Instagram by user "muhddanialsyafiq" on Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the title "The Real Raya".

The video shows a man wearing a Baju Melayu riding a motorcycle dangerously and performing stunts such as the wheelie around Kuala Lumpur, including at the Ampang Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly Yahya said their Intelligence Operations Unit led by Insp Mohammad Solihi Shafie managed to trace and arrest the man and seized the motorcycle, as well as clothes worn in the video.

"We have arrested the suspect under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous riding.

"Checks revealed he had been arrested twice before for similar offences and was sentenced under Section 79(2) of the same Act in 2018," he said in a statement on Monday (May 17).

He said the man was sentenced to a community service order for 12 months and had his licence suspended for two years in 2020.

"I urge road users to obey the laws and not endanger themselves and others.

"Those with enquiries or information can contact Tun H. S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999, or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or go to the nearest police station," he said.
