Nation’s daily cases may reach 8,000 by June

PETALING JAYA: The number of Covid-19 cases is projected to exceed 8,000 cases a day by June if the infectivity rate (R0, pronounced R-nought) is at 1.2 and if there is no compliance with the standard operating procedure.

This was according to a graphic by the Health Ministry, which was retweeted by its director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah yesterday.

In the same tweet, Dr Noor Hisham also shared that Perak had the highest R0 at 1.32, while the country’s average is 1.14.

Terengganu has an R0 of 1.29, Kedah (1.22), Penang (1.21), Melaka (1.18) while Selangor and Johor’s R0 is 1.17.

Dr Noor Hisham had previously said that the R0 has to be reduced to 0.5 to break the chain of infection in the country.
