KUCHING: Sarawak reported 533 new Covid-19 cases and one death on Friday (May 14), raising the cumulative tally to 37,654 cases with 215 fatalities.

The state disaster management committee said Miri had the most cases with 109, followed by Kapit (69), Sibu (58), Bintulu (46) and Kuching (42).

"These five districts contributed 60.78% of the total new cases," the committee said in a statement.

Other districts which recorded cases were Belaga (40), Sarikei (28), Selangau (26), Meradong (21), Pakan (18), Kanowit (15), Serian (13), Sebauh (11), Song and Sri Aman (seven each), Tatau (six), Mukah (five), Lubok Antu (four), Bau and Pusa (two each) and Bukit Mabong, Subis, Julau and Samarahan with one each.

"Of the 533 new cases, 38 had symptoms of Covid-19 during screening.

"A total of 439 comprised individuals who had been given quarantine orders," the committee said.

It said the latest death was a 60-year-old woman who was receiving cancer treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital here.

A swab test returned positive on May 3 and she passed away on May 13 after her condition deteriorated.

The committee also said a new community cluster was identified at a longhouse in Sungai Rayah, Meradong, with 13 confirmed cases to date.

"Fifty individuals have been screened and 37 tested negative. Close contacts have been identified and given quarantine orders," the committee said.
