Vaccination registration help for senior citizens in S’gor

PETALING JAYA: Several initiatives have been rolled out by the government and NGOs, among them the Covid-19 vaccine registration platform ImuniSel by the Selangor state government, to address the dismal number of registration by senior citizens.

ImuniSel, which was launched in April, aims to register those who do not have a smartphone or Internet access given the fact that registering to be vaccinated under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme might be a challenge for senior citizens, after dismal numbers were reflected in recent reports.

In a tweet, Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC) committee member Dr Helmi Zakariah urged interested Malaysians to register as volunteers to help register the non-tech-savvy at imunisel.my

“Print the card, register others. Close the gap, ” he tweeted.

According to the website, individuals will be registered by its volunteers through the ImuniSel application in outreach programmes.

The information collected by volunteers will then be channelled to the Selangor Health Department and MySejahtera’s primary vaccination database.

A physical Imunisel card with a QR code and personal details will be given to these individuals upon registration, for purposes of verifying appointments for their vaccination in the future.

Based on figures by the Statistics Department in 2019, it was reported that 37% of Selangor residents do not have smartphones, mobile phones or Internet access.

Meanwhile, Mercy Malaysia also appealed for interested Malaysians to help individuals in need of assistance to register for vaccination in its “Agen Basmi Covid-19” (ABC) initiative.

“Come and join us spread the word to those who need help in registering for the Covid-19 vaccine, ” it said.

Besides that, those without smartphones or Internet access may also register by calling up the National Covid-19 Vaccination Registration line at 1800-888-828.

Phase Two of the National

Covid-19 immunisation programme, which kicked off in most parts of the country on April 19, will cater to the elderly –aged 60 and above – and those with chronic conditions.

Coordinating minister for the programme Khairy Jamaluddin said so far, two million elderly and vulnerable people have registered for vaccination.

The government is targeting to vaccinate nine million people in Phase Two.
