Ismail Sabri: 295 arrested for violating Covid-19 SOPs on Tuesday (April 27)

PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 295 individuals for various violations of the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Tuesday (April 27), says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Defence Minister said that among the offences reported were failure to register customers details (175), not wearing face masks (71), activities at entertainment centres (4), no physical distancing (4) and cross-border travel without permission (2).

Of those arrested, 299 were slapped with compounds, while the remaining seven were remanded.

The taskforce monitoring SOP compliance carried out 64,264 checks on Tuesday, including at supermarkets (4,290), restaurants (5,236), factories (1,851), banks (4,105), government offices (1,192) and hawker centres (4,281).

On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said enforcement authorities arrested three illegal immigrants and seized four land vehicles on Tuesday.

“Authorities also detected the presence of 159 vessels in Malaysian waters during six sighting activities, ” he said Wednesday (April 28).

Ismail Sabri said that 668 foreign workers were screened for Covid-19 on April 27, of which two were found to be positive.

Cumulatively, the Human Resources Ministry had recorded that 690,845 foreign workers had undergone screening tests involving 35,679 employers.

Effective Feb 1, the government had made it mandatory for all foreign workers to be swabbed.

The minister also said that 817 individuals had arrived at international entry points on Tuesday and all were sent to quarantine stations.

Cumulatively since July 24 last year, a total of 187,540 individuals who returned were sent to hotels and other facilities to observe quarantine.
