Larry Sng's former millionaire father declared bankrupt

KUCHING: Datuk Sng Chee Hua (pic), the father of Julau MP Larry Sng, has been declared bankrupt in the wake of a family dispute.

The former millionaire politician-cum-businessman was sued for bankruptcy by his younger brother Sng Chee Kian last month, as shown in a bankruptcy search at the Insolvency Department .

The High Court here declared Chee Hua bankrupt after his brother filed the petition on March 24.

When contacted, Larry said he preferred to distance himself from the issue as it was between his father and uncle.

The older Sng was a two-term Pelagus assemblyman from 1991 to 2001 and was also Julau MP from 1995 to 1999.

He held positions in a number of political parties, including vice-president of the now-defunct Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) and deputy president of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS).

In November 2018, he became the new Sarikei PKR division chief after winning in the party polls.

Larry, meanwhile, quit PKR in February this year to become a government-friendly independent.
