Ismail Sabri: Parts of Tawau and Sarawak's Sg Passin under EMCO from April 12-25

KUALA LUMPUR: Parts of Tawau in Sabah and Sungai Passin in Sarawak are to be placed under an enhanced movement control order from Monday (April 12) to April 25, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister (Security) said that eight localities in Tawau that are involved are Tmn Sri Bukit Tawau, Taman Cahaya, Jalan Tengku Osman, Kuarters Bomba Tawau, Bandar Sri Indah, Jalan Mesra, Kampung Titingan and Taman Golden Hill.

"As of today, 76 positive cases and 220 close contacts have been detected in these localities. The Health Ministry confirmed the spread of the virus with the possibility of a high transmission rate," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 11).

Ismail Sabri said the government decided to implement EMCO on the area, as well as in Sungai Passin in Sarawak's Mukah division following a risk assessment by various agencies within the MCO Technical Committee and advice from the Health Ministry.

He also said that Sungai Passin in the Mukah Division's Matu River is under an EMCO due to the drastic increase in cases there.

"A total of 34 cases have been identified following screenings of 64 individuals there," he said.

He also said that the enhanced MCO at the Tapah Prison will be extended to April 26.

"A total of 3,572 screenings were conducted and 891 cases were recorded. The Health Ministry confirmed there were still many detainees who have yet to completely recover," said Ismail Sabri.

The EMCO involving the Tapah prison was originally scheduled to end on Monday.

Ismail Sabri also said that two more localities would be added to the enhanced MCO at Hulu Besut, Terengganu.

He said that the EMCO – which is to end on April 20 – was originally implemented on Kg. Belaoh, Kg. PPRT Belaoh Baru and Kg. Keruak and added that until Saturday (April 10), 61 cases were recorded from close contact screenings there.

"The Health Ministry however confirmed the need to expand the enhanced MCO to two neighbouring localities, Kg. Pak Sik dan FELCRA Keruak," he said, adding that this was because of movement of positive cases at both villages for group activities.

He said the enhanced MCO would be implemented at Kg. Pak Sik dan FELCRA Keruak from Monday to April 20.
