PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has 1,070 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (April 5), taking the cumulative total to 352,029.
The Health Ministry reported that Selangor tops the list of states - recording 327 new cases.
Sarawak is second with 225 cases, followed by Penang with 133 cases.
Other states recorded less than 100 cases.
Nine of Monday’s cases are imported infections, while the rest are local transmissions.
Of the locally transmitted cases, 904 (85.2%) are Malaysians while 157 (14.8%) are foreigners.
There are seven new Covid-19 fatalities, pushing Malaysia’s death toll up to 1,295.
Another 1,294 patients were discharged from treatment, bringing the total number of recoveries to 336,456, or 95.6% of all cases.
There are now 14,278 active cases nationwide.
Of that total, 180 are currently under intensive care, with 89 of them requiring ventilator support.
In his daily statement, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the death cases involved Malaysians aged between 46 to 86.
“Four of the country’s death cases are reported in Selangor. Two others are in Sabah and one in Johor,
“The ministry would like to express its condolences to the family members, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.
All of the deceased had a history of comorbidities such as high blood pressure, diabetes and dyslipidemia.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 death rate is at 0.37% out of all cases.
