Duo detained for ramming into cop and fleeing scene

KAJANG: A man and a woman have been detained after hitting a policeman with their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said the incident occurred at a parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Bandar Baru Bangi at about 10.30pm on Tuesday (March 9).

He said a team of policemen, who were on their crime prevention rounds, spotted the suspicious duo who were in the car with the engine running.

"One of the policemen approached the vehicle and told the occupants to get down from the vehicle for an inspection.

"Upon realising the police were unto them, the man rammed the car against the police motorcycle and the policeman.

"The policeman had to hold on to the car and he was dragged some 150m before managing to free himself," he said when contacted on Wednesday (March 10).

The suspects then escaped towards Jalan Persiaran Jaya in Bandar Baru Bangi, despite the efforts of the police to stop them, he added.

"The policeman who was hit by the suspects suffered light injuries but his motorcycle was badly damaged.

"However, he managed to remember the car's registration number," he said.

ACP Mohd Zaid said police managed to detain the suspects, aged 19 and 20, soon after.

"They will be remanded for further investigations," he added.

He urged those with information to contact investigating officer Insp Mu'az Mazlan at 017-9788804 or any nearest police station.
