Five arrested for stealing oil palm bunches at Machap Baru estate


ALOR GAJAH: Five people have been detained for allegedly stealing oil palm fresh fruit bunches from an estate at Machap Baru here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the suspects were arrested at 3.30pm on Tuesday (Feb 23), after the police received information from the public.

"The bunches weighed about three tonnes and cost about RM2,000," he said on Wednesday (Feb 24).

Supt Arshad said the five suspects, aged 17 to 47, have been remanded to assist in an investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for stealing.

He said of those detained, one of them also had a previous criminal record.

Supt Arshad said police also confiscated equipment used in harvesting the bunches.
