Covid-19 vaccines: Malaysia's contracts ensure it will get updated vaccines for coronavirus variants, says Khairy

PUTRAJAYA: Vaccine contracts procured by Malaysia ensure that the country will get those that can fight coronavirus variants and mutations, says Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“There is an existing agreement with Pfizer with such a clause. When I negotiated the contract, I ensured that if there is an upgrade based on new variants, our existing contract will cover vaccines that are upgraded or new vaccines, ” he said on Wednesday (Feb 17).

Khairy said it was similar to other vaccine contracts which Malaysia had procured where the contracts state that it will get upgraded vaccines in light of new variants or mutations of the coronavirus.

The minister was asked if Malaysia’s vaccine agreement allows for it to receive “updated vaccines” that can fight Covid-19 mutations.

The first batch of the Pfizer-BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in the country on Feb 21.
