Covid-19: No discussion on vaccinations over the long term yet, says Khairy

PUTRAJAYA: The government has yet to discuss long-term support for vaccines should there be a need to be inoculated annually against Covid-19, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said the government is monitoring the global situation, with an eye on countries that have accelerated their respective vaccination exercises.

“We are monitoring to see if later this year, vaccines will have to be readministered, if the virus is endemic and continues to stay within the community.

“At that point, we will discuss government support for Malaysians and those residing here, and how we tackle the virus in the longer term," he told a media conference here on Wednesday (Feb 17).

The government had announced that the first batch of vaccines is to arrive on Feb 21, paving the way for the rollout of the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme, to begin in phases from Feb 26.

The vaccine will be given free to Malaysians and non-citizens.
