Health DG: Selangor's Covid-19 cases return to four figures after a day's dip

PUTRAJAYA: Selangor’s daily Covid-19 figure returned to four digits after just one day, with the state recording 1,757 new cases on Wednesday (Feb 10).

Just the day before, Selangor saw a dip in cases when it recorded 862 infections.

The increase of nearly 1,000 additional cases in the state has contributed towards Malaysia’s daily figure, which has now gone back on an upward trend with 3,288 new infections.

The previous four days had seen the country’s daily total decreasing from 3,847 on Feb 6 to 2,764 on Feb 9.

In his daily Covid-19 update, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said Selangor’s cases made up 53.4% of the country’s total on Wednesday.

“Of this figure, a total of 1,552 cases (88.3%) in Selangor are from existing clusters, as well as those uncovered from active screening activities, ” he said.

Kuala Lumpur recorded the second highest figure with 408 new cases, followed by Johor with 369 and Negri Sembilan with 157.

Perlis was the only state to report zero new cases on Wednesday.

Five of the 3,288 cases are imported infections.

Dr Noor Hisham said 63 new positive cases were detected from clusters related to lockups, detention centres and prisons.

He said there were 14 more Covid-19 deaths, bringing the nation's total fatalities to 923.

“Today’s deaths involved five cases in Selangor, four in Sabah, two in Johor and one each in Kedah, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

“All the victims are Malaysians, ” said Dr Noor Hisham.

The ages of the deceased ranged from 36 to 94 and most of them suffered from comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced 1,929 more Covid-19 recoveries on Wednesday. In total, Malaysia has discharged 198,495 patients.

There are currently 52,186 active Covid-19 cases being treated in hospitals and quarantine centres.

Of these, 285 are in intensive care units, with 131 on ventilator support.
