Public safety should always be govt's priority, says MCA Youth

KUALA LUMPUR: Public safety and health must be a priority for the Government, especially with the high number of Covid-19 cases, says MCA youth.

Its vice chairman Chua Hock Kuan said the extension of the movement control order (MCO) until Feb 18 should be welcomed by all parties.

"This is for our long-term security. The question of public safety and health must be a priority for the government, moreover, the number of positive Covid-19 cases in our country is still high," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 2).

He said although Chinese New Year was approaching, the MCO would not be a barrier for it to be celebrated.

"It will only not be as lively as previous years as visiting is prohibited.

"In fact, other festivals also had to be celebrated in a new norm due to the Covid-19 pandemic," he said, adding that this was the reality Malaysians had to face.

He said once the problem was successfully addressed, we could celebrate as usual in the years to come.

"This is a painful situation that we need to swallow for the safety and health together," he said, adding that Malaysians, as responsible citizens, must always comply with the SOP set by the National Security Council and Health Ministry.
