Covid-19: Police to increase inspections on SOP compliance following sharp increase in cases

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has instructed all state police contingents to increase inspections on compliance to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP) following the sharp increase in cases.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said checks conducted by the compliance operation task force will be stepped up, especially in crowded areas and places of public focus.

"The task force led by the police will increase inspections from time to time. For example, the Kelantan police recently issued compounds to those involved in a water festival in the state," he told a press conference after launching a book on the history of the General Operations Force (GOF) at its headquarters in Cheras on Friday (Jan 8).

He added that the increases in inspections has been relayed to all police contingents.

"We will focus on all celebrations involving the gathering of a large number of people where physical distancing is ignored," he said.

While some increase of Covid-19 cases involved clusters from construction sites, Acryl Sani said the public must adhere to the SOP to ensure that the virus does not spread when the conditional MCO and the recovery MCO are being implemented nationwide.

"Based on my observation, physical distancing is being disregarded more and more. We must ensure that the public comply with the SOP to stop the spread of the virus," he added.
