Ex-deputy minister Railey Jeffrey passes away


PETALING JAYA: The remains of former deputy information minister Datuk Railey Jeffrey (pic), who passed away on Saturday, was laid to rest at the Bukit Kiara Muslim Cemetery here.

Railey, 75, died at his residence in Taman Lagenda Puteri here at 5.30pm on Saturday.

In compliance with Covid-19 SOP, the burial ceremony was attended only by close family members and friends, including Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Railey’s former wife, Datin Sharifah Sheril Aida Syed Kechil.

His remains were earlier taken to Masjid Jamek Tengku Abdul Aziz Shah, Kampung Sungai Penchala, for funeral prayers.

Describing him as a good leader, Mohd Shafie said he had known Railey for over 20 years.

“He cared about the people’s welfare, ” he said.

Railey served as Deputy Information Minister from 1986 to 1995 before becoming the Deputy Works Minister until 1999.

During that period, he was the Silam MP from the United Sabah National Organisation (Usno), which later joined Umno in 1991. — Bernama
