Ismail Sabri: Conditional MCO ends in Kelantan except for two sub-districts

PUTRAJAYA: The government has ended the conditional movement control order (MCO) in Kelantan, except for two sub-districts, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister (Security) said the government has agreed to lift the conditional MCO in Kota Baru, Machang, Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas, which was supposed to end on Dec 20.

“The Health Ministry has confirmed that the positive cases in the four districts have shown a sharp declining trend, while the active cases are only concentrated in certain sub-districts.

“With the advice of the ministry, the government has agreed to end the conditional MCO for Kota Baru, Machang, Tanah Merah and Pasir Mas on Dec 11,” said Ismail Sabri in his daily updates on Friday (Dec 11).

The two sub-districts, which will remain under the conditional MCO until Dec 20, are Kubang Kerian and Kusial. The sub-district of Kubang Kerian is in the district of Kota Baru while the sub-district of Kusial is in the district of Tanah Merah.

Ismail Sabri said the enhanced MCO imposed on the Ad-Diniah Al-Falahiah madrasah in Pasir Puteh will also continue until Dec 20.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said 260 people were nabbed on Thursday (Dec 10) for various violations of the MCO.

He said 15 of those caught have been remanded, while the remaining 245 were issued compounds.

Among the violations include not wearing masks (102 individuals), failure to provide check-in facilities for customers (79), failure to adhere to physical distancing rules (40), entertainment outlets-related activities (27) and others (12).

Ismail Sabri said the police, who is heading the government’s task force on SOP compliance, had conducted a total of 49,004 checks on Thursday to monitor if the people are adhering to the guidelines.

He said the checks were conducted by nearly 3,000 enforcement teams at supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks and government buildings all over the country.

The Defence Minister also said 18 undocumented migrants, three tekong (boat captains) were arrested while three land vehicles were seized under Ops Benteng on Thursday.

He added that 121 roadblocks have been set up nationwide under the operations, which is meant to sniff out undocumented migrants illegally sneaking into the country.
