Cops hunting down snatch thieves following viral video

KUALA LUMPUR: A video of a snatch theft at a pharmacy is making its rounds on social media and WhatsApp.

The 45-second footage taken from CCTV in the area shows two men alighting from an orange Perodua MyVi and walking towards a shoplot.

The video then cuts to another camera angle which shows one of the men walking into a pharmacy.

He walks toward the cashier before the video cuts to another angle showing him approaching a woman at the cashier counter.

The man, who was dressed in black and wearing a face mask, then snatches the woman's necklace and she begins to struggle.

The cashier also attempts to help but the man manages to grab the woman's necklace and beats her before fleeing.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Rajab Ahad Ismail said the incident occurred at around 9pm on Saturday (Nov 21) at a pharmacy along Jalan Gombak.

"The suspects managed to flee in a vehicle with two gold chains worth at least RM10,000.

"We have acquired CCTV footage from the area and checks revealed both men wore masks and the car they were using had a fake licence plate," he said, adding that the case was being investigated as robbery.

He urged anyone with information on the case to contact Asst Supt Shahriza at 017-713 4705 or Insp Aisyah Mohd Nor at 013-933 8214 or contact the city police hotline at 03-2115 9999.
