26 flood victims rescued in Tampoi after two hours of heavy rain

JOHOR BARU: Some 26 flood victims from four families were displaced in Kampung Pasir Putih, Tampoi here following heavy rain for almost two hours.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Suhaimi Abdul Jamal said they received a call about the flood at about 5.20pm on Saturday (Nov 21) and deployed 11 personnel with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and one Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicles.

“The water has risen to about one metre when we arrived and some of the victims were trapped in their homes.

“The victims were rescued and sent to a temporary shelter (PPS) at SK Kampung Pasir, ” he said in a statement released here on Saturday.

He said that the rescue operation ended at about 8.45pm.

Meanwhile, in Pontian, two flood victims were rescued from their homes and sent to a temporary shelter at SK Ulu Pulai, following a flash flood at Kampung Ulu Pulai, Pekan Nenas.

Pekan Nenas Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mahadir Mamat said that a call was received at about 6pm about the flood and eight personnel from the department were deployed to the location.

“We were able to rescue the victims and send them to a temporary shelter. Operation is still ongoing and the number of victims may increase, ” he said.
