Abas Awang's death a major loss for Pahang PKR, says Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed grief over the death of his close friend, Cikgu Abas Awang, who died on Friday (June 5).

In a Facebook post on Saturday (June 6), he described Abas’s passing as a great loss, especially to the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan) family in Pahang.

"His contributions, sacrifices and commitment to the struggle and to human development will continue to be remembered by those who knew him and stood alongside him.

"Azizah (Anwar's wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail) and I pray that Allah SWT showers His mercy upon the soul of the late Cikgu Abas Awang, forgives his sins and places him among His righteous servants,” he said.

Anwar also prayed that Cikgu Abas Awang’s family would be given strength, patience and resilience in coping with the loss.

Abas, a former PKR candidate for the Bera parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15), died at his home in Section 4, Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor.

He had led PKR’s Education Bureau about a decade ago and remained active with Pahang PKR until his passing.- Bernama
