Calls for EMCO in KL will come from health authorities, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: The health authorities will make the recommendation should they see the need to place certain areas in Kuala Lumpur under an enhanced movement control order, says Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said any decision by the National Security Council to place an area or locality under various orders would have to come with recommendations and advice from the Health Ministry.

“The ministry will evaluate the situation and if authorities feel there is a need to place an area under an enhanced lockdown to avoid further spreading of Covid-19, they will inform the council and we will act accordingly, ” he said on Monday (Nov 16).

Ismail was asked if an enhanced MCO would be enforced in certain parts of Kuala Lumpur, which is seeing a spike in the number of cases.

On Sunday (Nov 15), Kuala Lumpur recorded 469 cases, of which 460 were from the Damanlela construction site cluster.

On another matter, Ismail announced that the enhanced MCO placed on the Health Ministry’s training institute in Johor Baru has ended.

Health authorities had said that as at Nov 14, all screen test samples had been obtained and the number of cases was under control.

“With the advice of the ministry, the council has agreed to end the enhanced MCO today (Monday) as scheduled, ” said Ismail.
