Tawau field hospital to start operations today (Oct 20) for non-Covid-19 cases, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: The Tawau field hospital is in its final preparation and is expected to start its operations on Tuesday (Oct 20), says Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The Health director-general said the hospital, which is based in Dewan Kompleks Sukan Tawau - 5.8km from Tawau Hospital - is specifically for non-Covid-19 cases.

"With this initiative, Hospital Tawau can focus on Covid-19 patients that require intensive care (category 3-5)," he said in a Facebook post.

For the initial stage, the hospital has the capacity of 100 beds and has an intensive care unit, as well as an operating theatre.

"The Health Ministry would like to express our highest gratitude to all our staff and those involved including the Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), local agencies as well as other related agencies that were involved from its initial discussion stages and the building of the Tawau field hospital.

"It will start its operations soon," he added.
