AMPANG: Police will set up roadblocks at toll plazas and state borders in Selangor to prevent inter-district and interstate travelling during the conditional movement control order (MCO).

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Noor Azam Jamaludin said the move was necessary as police found many people were trying to carry out such travelling with valid reasons.

“We conducted 63 roadblocks on the first day. There were many who tried to cross districts and states without valid reasons, ” he told a press conference after witnessing the handing over of the Ampang Jaya OCPD post on yesterday.

Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak takes over from ACP Noor Azmi Yusoff as Ampang Jaya OCPD.

Three people were arrested while police also issued 118 compounds for violating the conditional MCO on Wednesday, he said.

“Among other offences were not wearing face masks and failure to maintain physical distancing.”

Comm Noor Azam said he was also aware of road congestion due to the roadblocks set up on Wednesday.

“We hope the public can remain patient as our aim is to stop the spread of Covid-19. The cooperation is much appreciated, ” he added.

Meanwhile, on the handing over ceremony, Comm Noor Azam said he was confident that ACP Mohamad Farouk will be able to lead the district police to new heights.
