PETALING JAYA: Kubang Pasu MP Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah is seeking to table a motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in the coming Parliament meeting next month.
The former deputy finance minister said he had submitted notice to Parliament on the matter on Thursday (Oct 15).
“I have sent the letter to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat regarding a motion of no-confidence against the most honourable Prime Minister dated Oct 15,2020 for the coming session of Parliament, ” he said in a tweet on Friday (Oct 16).
Amiruddin is among five lawmakers who were sacked from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia in May, which included then party chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Under the Parliament's Standing Orders, MPs are required to submit a notice to the Dewan Rakyat of motions they intend to raise in the coming meeting, which begins on Nov 2 and ends on Dec 10, two weeks before the meeting begins.
Prior to this, Gua Musang MP Tan Sri Razaleigh Hamzah had requested a guarantee that priority would be given to the tabling of a motion of no confidence against the prime minister in the upcoming parliament sitting in a letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker dated Sept 25.
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun responded to Razaleigh's inquiry, saying that government business takes precedence over Private Members’ Bills in the House.
