Cops plunge into water pollution probe

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will act against those responsible for the odour pollution at the two water treatment plants (LRA) in Sungai Semenyih and Bukit Tampoi, near here, which resulted in the plants’ closure.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said although the LRA were located in Selangor, preliminary investigations found that the pollution originated from the upstream of Sungai Semenyih in Negri Sembilan.

“We will see who is really responsible and, if the source of the pollution is in Negri Sembilan, then the police from that state will form a special team to handle the case.

“In the meantime, we’ll let the Environmental Department conduct its investigations first, ” he said yesterday. — Bernama
