PETALING JAYA: PAS will get an explanation from Umno over the purported shift of support from the Prime Minister at a closed-door Muafakat Nasional meeting next week, says Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki (pic).
He said during the meeting, PAS would also explain its participation as one of the component parties within Perikatan Nasional.
"Focus on the Sabah election first. Next week, in the closed-door central Muafakat Nasional meeting, the leadership can get an explanation in the spirit of musyawarah (consensus) and ukhwah (brotherhood)," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (Sept 25).
"God-willing, Umno will not sideline PAS, what more to betray the mutual principles as outlined within the Muafakat Nasional charter," said Asyraf.
Earlier, PAS called on Umno to explain claims that certain Umno MPs' support for the Prime Minister had shifted.
PAS secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said if this was indeed true, then Umno, its partner in Muafakat Nasional, had gone against their understanding and agreement signed in a joint charter last year.
"It should be remembered that the Muafakat Nasional joint charter was crafted based on the goals to unite the Muslims in the country, as well as bid to defeat Pakatan Harapan led by PKR, DAP and Amanah.
"As such, if the shift in support is real, then it can be considered as a move to overthrow the Perikatan Nasional government, built on the consensus of Barisan Nasional, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and a few other parties following the fall of Pakatan," said Takiyuddin.
